Storing your Realfood
We are excited to introduce our new reusable Pyrex storage dishes, which we hope you will love as much as we do! You won't be able to miss the pretty pink lids (keeping the price down took priority over branding) and it is just amazing how many uses you can find for them in the kitchen.
However, not all our packaging is airtight and therefore we have jotted down a few tips below to help you safely store your food:
- Keeping food in the fridge
Your Realfood delivery should be kept refrigerated at or below 5 degrees C until it is ready to be reheated and served.
We recommend transferring any food that will not be eaten immediately to leak-proof, airtight containers. This will avoid the risk of odours or other contaminants affecting the taste and freshness of your food.
Glass storage containers:
Some of our dishes are served in awesome Pyrex Store ‘n Serve glass containers. These dishes will keep your food safe in the fridge until the use by date but can also be transferred straight to the freezer if you want to keep your food for longer. A small deposit (much lower than the retail price) is paid on the purchase of the bowl which will be refunded if you return it to us in good condition. However, please feel free to keep a few for yourself. They are great for storing salads and leftovers without the use of soft plastics and make a great ‘lunchbox’ if you want to take your food to work or school the next day. The Pyrex bowls are also microwave and oven safe (without the lid !)
Freezing your food
We recommend keeping your food in airtight containers in the freezer to prevent freezer burn, which degrades the quality of your food. Our Pyrex dishes are perfect for this and can be transferred straight to your freezer.
- Lasagnas and other large items (Cottage pie, chicken pie) are best cut into small serving sizes before freezing. This makes them easier to fit into an airtight container and easier to defrost.
- Some items such as salads, are not suitable for freezing. If this is the case, we will indicate on the packaging with an ‘Unsuitable to freeze’ logo.
- Foods can generally be stored in the freezer for 3 to 6 months.
- Defrost in the fridge overnight prior to reheating.
It is often best to reheat food in the same manner it was originally cooked. For example, pies and pastries are best warmed in a conventional oven at about 140 degrees. Other foods can be easily reheated in a pan on the stove top or in the microwave. You can refer to the heating instructions on our website or on the original packaging of your product for specific details.
However, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at all regarding the safe handling of your Realfood delivery.
